Rene C. ⏐ HOPE at Alpha Learning Academy
Rene, a spirited young man originally from Riverside, California, embarked on a life-changing journey when he moved to Pueblo, Colorado at the age of seven. His unique perspective as the only boy among three sisters shaped his experiences, both challenging and rewarding.
Despite the challenges, Rene’s zest for life shines through. He enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, from fishing to hiking. Occasionally, he even joins his father on hunting trips—an annual tradition that strengthens their bond. But it’s the simple moments, like playing pool with friends during lunch breaks, that remain etched in his memory.
Rene’s transition from a bustling Pueblo high school to HOPE at Alpha Learning Academy was marked by a shift in dynamics. At his former school, students surrounded him from all angles, a constant buzz of activity. However, HOPE offered a different experience—a smaller, more intimate setting. For someone who prefers meaningful connections over a crowd, this change felt right. Rene appreciated the close-knit community, even though he occasionally longed for the lively chatter of a larger school.
One of Rene’s most significant challenges was earning credits and staying on track. Determined to succeed, he committed to attending school regularly, completing assignments, and managing his time effectively. His dedication paid off, and he learned that sometimes the solution lies in simplicity—“just do the work.”
Rene’s unwavering motivation comes from his mother. Her talks—sometimes stern, always heartfelt—have guided him through tough times. One conversation during his junior year left an indelible mark. His mother presented him with a choice: drop out and work with his father or persevere in school. The words echoed in his mind: “Get it together.” That moment became a turning point. Rene realized that quitting wasn’t an option; his mom’s dream was for him to earn his diploma. Her unwavering belief in him fueled his determination.
Rene’s goals extend beyond high school. He aims to finish college. Rene recognizes the importance of education and plans to complete college and would like to become a Police Officer. Ultimately, Rene envisions himself as a detective, unraveling mysteries and seeking justice.
Rene acknowledges that many students view school as monotonous. However, he emphasizes a crucial perspective: School isn’t merely about textbooks and assignments. It lays the groundwork for responsibility and discipline—the tools needed to navigate adulthood. Don’t procrastinate. Finish assignments promptly. Waiting until the last minute adds unnecessary stress. Learn while you can. Once you’re out of school, the responsibility falls squarely on your shoulders.
Rene’s positivity radiates, and he believes it can make a difference: Positivity isn’t just about words; it’s a mindset. Even when faced with challenges, maintain an optimistic outlook. Show others that you’re not defined by circumstances. Your attitude matters.
